1. Look back to the quote on p. 87 in Stacey that I ended class with on Tuesday.
What is she saying in this quote? Do you see evidence for her assertions in
the exit poll data?
2. Why does Stacey begin by discussing working class families in the Silicon
Valley and end by discussing gay and lesbian families? Despite her argument
that gay and lesbian families might be a good model for considering the needs
of all families, Stacey does not provide concrete policy proposals. Given her
argument, what policies do you think she would advocate?
3. How do the values that she advocates fit with those advocated by your group?
4. Begin to think about the politics of your group’s proposals. Do they
seem to fit with any coherent political perspective? Are there particular groups
of voters that might be attracted to your proposals? Are there particular groups
who might be alienated by your proposals?
5. What role do you see feminism playing in political discussion of family in
the United States? I will ask that you report on answers to this question in
class on Tuesday.
Remember to take 5 minutes at the end of each meeting and reflect on how the
reading/meeting has influenced your thoughts about both principles and policies.
