About Thelmo

The Thelomathesian Society, commonly referred to as "Thelmo," is the student government at St. Lawrence University. This organization plays a crucial role in determining campus issues and policies. It also serves as the liaison between the student body and the administration, faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, and regional community.

Thelmo consists of student-selected Senators from the first-year, sophomore, junior and senior classes. Senators are selected to represent the interests of their residence hall. As senators, they communicate to their constituents and vote on policies that they believe are in the best interest of the St. Lawrence community.

Thelmo provides students with the chance to become involved with St. Lawrence University brought forth by the campus and its community. Throughout the year, Thelmo also reaches out to the students, sponsoring both academic and social events. These events range from panel presentations on diversity and racial privilege to March Madness parties held in the Student Center. The Thelomathesian Society is highly respected throughout the campus by students, administrators, faculty and staff alike. Thelmo enables the campus community to understand the importance of the governing student body as St. Lawrence continues to strive for academic excellence.

The Thelomathesian Society Senate serves as the group of student representatives that makes the decisions on behalf of the entire student body. The Senate meets every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the John W. Hannon Jr. '44 Room on the 3rd floor of the Student Center. Meetings usually last between 1-2.5 hours.

Thelmo is governed by Robert's Rules of Order, which are enforced by the President. The Thelomathesian Society Constitution also sets the guidelines for how the Senate is structured. To view the Thelomathesian Society Constitution in its entirety, please look under the Student Groups tab under "Thelomathesian Society."

Thelmo also serves as the governing body for all student organizations. In order for a group to receive a yearly budget, they must have organizational status, which is granted by the Senate. For a complete listing of all student groups on campus, please click here.
