In addition to the lecture and lab, there will be special weekly assignments of a variable nature. These will be designed to acquaint you with the process of finding and expressing science information.

SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS: (50 pts total)

1. Take and hand in the quiz on what you remember from gen bio.

2. Find the size and weight of DNA from wild type E. coli. List your reference(s).

3. Hand in a one page summary describing the toxicity of nicotine. List your reference(s).

4. What was the title of the article written by Dr. Pentti Tengvall, et. al., which appeared in the journal Biomaterials, vol. 10, pp. 166-175.

5. Write an abstract of the article assigned. Refer to the instructions given on the literature review page.

6. Review the literature via the written indices and list the molecular types of COLLAGEN or INTERLEUKIN and briefly describe the role or occurrence of each.

7. Design and turn in a search strategy for doing the same literature search via on-line computer retrieval. Then execute the search.

8. Prepare and give a 5 minute presentation on one type of COLLAGEN or INTERLEUKIN (one assigned to each).

9. Draw a cell diagram incorporating all that you have learned about cells.
