Abraham's Later Life
In 1762, Abraham finally retired. He lived the rest of his life "in peace and tranquility" on an estate near St. Petersburg. He died at the age of 83 or 84 on May 14, 1781. The Hannibal name in the Russian affairs did not end with the death of Abraham. Two of his eleven children continued his military ambitions. His son, Ivan Hannibal, became a general for the Russian Navy. His other son, Ossip Hannibal, became a major of artillery in the Russian Navy. Ossip Hannibal had another important factor; his daughter, Nadezhda, was the mother of the great writer Alexander Pushkin. Nadezhda had another son, Oleg, who became an officer. Alexander's son became apart of the Russian Army and eventually was awarded with the position of General of Cavalry.
