Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov and Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky proved to be a wonderful team of choreographers and musical composers. In 1895 the group staged the first production of the timeless classic Swan Lake. Different versions of this ballet have been performed, but the majority of them are all based upon a German folktale.

The story associated with the ballet is that a princess, Odette, encounters a magician who turns she and her friends into swans. Opposite the idea of Cinderella, the swans are able to become human again for a few hours once the clock strikes midnight. One night, Odette meets a prince who falls in love with her. He swears that he will rescue her from the magician's spell. A few nights later, the prince has a ball and he is supposed to choose a bride. The magician's daughter arrives at the ball dressed as a black swan with an uncanny resemblance to Odette. Automatically, the prince picks her as his bride, not knowing that it is the magician's daughter. Odette arrives and she and the prince realize what has happened. Disappointed, Odette leaves to return to the lake and the price rushes off after her. Unfortunately the magician creates a storm and drowns Odette and the prince.

There have been different endings created for this particular ballet. In some versions, the prince rescues Odette after fighting the magician.

It is an honor to be cast as Odette. The lead has been performed by many of the world's best ballerinas.
