Vasilyevsky Island is the largest island in the Neva Delta. Planned by Peter the Great, founder of St. Petersburg to be the center of the city, this island contains some of St. Petersburg's most beautiful and treasured attractions. Some of these attractions include the Rostral Columns, the Naval Museum, the Kunstkammer, Sphinx Pier, the Menshikov Palace, the Zoology Museum, and the Bolshoi Prospekt among many others.
