Following the September 11 attacks, the World Economic Forum (WEF) cynically moved its meetings from Davos, Switzerland to New York City, on the assumption that the political climate in the US would be more favorable for the repression of dissent. Mainstream anti-corporate globalization groups refused to endorse or in any other way support the event. So for the first time, the entire protest was organizaed by more radical anti-capitalist groups. SAGE participated in a legal march and subsequent rally outside of the hotel where the WEF hid themselves away.
