Fail-Safe
While Dr. Strangelove, which was released in the same year, has
become more well known, Fail-Safe may be a better movie. Peter Fonda plays the U.S. President who must deal with a nuclear bomber that has been mistakenly dispatched towards the Soviet Union. The Soviets find it difficult to believe that the bomber has not been launched intentionally. Not only is Fail-Safe a devestating critique of nuclear weapons, and technological society in general, it is also a compelling, gripping human drama. Look for a slim Dom DeLuise in a bit part.
