The following are set up on the printer table for exit testing:

Notes:

Lab setup (see this page for detailed photos):
Use new coils, as shown below (do not use the iron core rod!)

Large outer coil; small inner coil (ours are red!); iron core

Attach the spade lugs to the galvanometer, and the banana–to–pin adapters to the knife switch (see below). All other components are left for students to assemble.
Insert the 100 kΩ resistor into the holder; use two alligator clips on the other side:
Set up an extra coil and a galvanometer on instructor's table for exit testing. Also, be sure to have 5 magnets with the ends taped over and labeled A, B, C, etc.
The horseshoe magnet is used to calibrate the compasses.
The DC power panel in the storeroom gets set to around 6 volts; Jeff will make this connection.
It's important that students connect the galvanometer in series with a 100 kΩ resistor before connecting to DC power. If not, the meter gets fried.
