μ–Mesons in Flight

  • Muon decay time = 2.2 μs ("proper time")
  • Mt. Washington: h = 1920 m
    So, fewer muons will reach the ground!

     

     

    (keep v in unts of 'c')
    Δto : proper time (measured in reference frame where events occur in the same place)
    Lo : proper length (measured where object is at rest)
