About Our Program
Physicists are creative, imaginative, innovative, and determined to answer the universal question, ‘How?’ If you like to build things, want to learn how devices work, are fascinated by astronomy, and enjoy solving math problems, then our physics program is for you.
You’ll investigate the fundamental principles of the natural world from elementary particles to the farthest dimensions of the universe and the search for dark energy. You’ll build relationships with professors who inspire you to answer burning questions through experimentation, collaboration, and thinking outside of the box.
Science in Action
No matter where you are conducting research, our hands-on program will prepare you for a variety of science-related careers.Research
You can examine physics topics or pressing issues further through research during the semester or as part of a paid summer fellowship. You may even get to present your findings in a research paper about sound waves on an electric bass guitar like Matthew Bitzer ’19. He measured the signal produced by an electric bass guitar and resynthesized the waveforms to reproduce the sound.
Senior Year Experience (SYE)
Turn your passion into a project with a Senior Year Experience. Caleb Clarke ’20 harvested the lost energy of bicycle suspension with a linear electromagnetic generator. He designed, produced, and tested two prototypes modeled around an implementation within the bicycle industry and proposed a new design aimed to improve power efficiency.

If you can imagine it, you can build it. With the help of our on-campus workshop, you’ll have the machinery you need at your disposal to bring innovative lab tools, gadgets, and experiments to life.
Arecibo & Greenbank Observatory Trip
Take your physics knowledge on the road! During this multi-day trip to West Virginia, you’ll collaborate with scientists from other academic institutions, attend workshops, and tour the world’s largest fully steerable single aperture antenna.
The Physics of Music
Physics explores the fundamental principles of our natural world. In this hands-on class, you’ll use physics equipment and musical instruments to learn about sound, how sound is created, and what makes it musical.
Liberal Arts Scholarship
This program offers scholarships to domestic high-achieving, Pell-grant eligible students interested in pursuing STEM majors, outside of a pre-med track, including mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, neuroscience, and geology.
