Rules

• POW is open to all currently enrolled St. Lawrence University students.
• New problems will be posted each Friday.
• Copies of the current week's problem can be obtained from the Mathematics office.
• Solutions are due by noon on the following Friday, in the Math office.
• Solutions are judged by Mathematics faculty members and will be awarded points on a 0-5 scale.
• Judging criteria include correctness, clarity of exposition, economy and elegance of method.
• Partial solutions, special cases, or related work may be eligible for points.
• One correct solution will be selected and posted each week to earn the weekly prize ($10 bookstore gift certificate).
• In the event that no correct solutions are submitted, a problem may be declared "open" with the prize going to the first correct solution submitted.
• Scores will be accumulated and posted throughout the semester to determine the spring's top problem solver.
