The Dog Leg Route
"I'm driving over to Tulla today," said Bill. "Would you care to come?"
"Sure," Doug told him. "Is it far?"
"Just twenty-one miles by the straight road from here, but that's closed after last week's washout," replied his brother. "We'll have to take a longer route."
"Well, I'm in no rush." Doug laughed. "You're the boss."
Bill nodded. "There's a highway running thirty-three miles staight to Dill, then another straight highway an exact number of miles up to Tulla," he said. "But maybe it's better to cut across from the Dill highway to our closed road beyond the break by a staight track I now. The odd thing is that we turn off an exact number of miles from here, and come to the direct road exactly the same distance along the track, and again the same distance to drive on the Tulla road."
How long would that dog leg route be?
