Six Log Fire

The diagram below shows an end view of six logs that have been piled to make a fire. The three base logs each have a diameter of 16 inches. The two logs at the middle level each have a diameter of 8 inches. The top log fits on so that each of the circles just touch each other as shown in the diagram. What is the diameter of the top log?
