Survivor X: The Actuarial Episode

ABSTRACT: We`ve seen tropical islands, the Austrailian outback, even Africa. Now, in an academic setting, we will examine survival analysis to study lifetimes, for example, the reliability of mechanical components, survival times after medical treatments, human life spans, healing rates, and the length of marriages. Statistical techniques allow us to model the distribution of lifetimes, handle censored data, and make comparisons. We will illustrate some of these ideas with applications to real data.
