HYDROELECTRIC POWER
My project that I will present at the science fare
will be about hydroelectric energy. The project will also consist of issues
that concern the environment as well as the people in it. I will also be
discussing the high points of hydroelectric as well as some of the problems.
Is hydroelectric the answer to our society? That is the main question that
I will be getting people to think about. Hydropower in other countries
will be discussed and what the people from other countries think about
this kind of energy.
The environmental issues that come along with hydropower
are really not that bad. If you compared a nuclear plant to a hydroelectric
power plant you would see the difference in the too and realize that hydropower
is much more environmentally safe. Hydropower doesn’t contribute to global
warming or acid rain. A few problems that exist are the fish sometimes
get caught up in the dam while passing through, irrigation of the land
downstream and flooding to land and towns near by. These are a few of the
ups and downs to hydroelectric.
Also I will be discussing hydropower not only the
United States but in other countries such as Turkey and Germany. In Turkey
on the Goksu River where a hydroelectric power dam has been placed has
so far impacted the local people of Turkey. This dam has made a big impact
on Turkey and in years to come hydroelectric will be a huge success. The
Rhine River in Germany has a dam called the Albbruck-Dogern hydro power
plant, which is one of the 11 run-of-the-river stations exploiting the
head and discharge available on the upper Rhine River. Canada on the other
hand has a few hydropower dams across Canada and likes the idea of the
whole environmentally safe concept.
When talking about cheaper electricity, hydropower
is the answer for a few reasons. For one hydropower is renewable energy
and it is easier generate more electricity by using these dams. This renewable
energy is cheaper for the people around the project as well as people in
other communities. Hydroelectric is cheaper and in years to come will lower
prices in oil.
In conclusion to hydropower there are many reasons
why hydropower should be encouraged. There are some small environmental
issues but the up side to hydroelectric is much more brighter. This is
the point that I will be trying to get across to viewers and listeners
at the science fare. Everybody has a right to know the advantages to hydroelectric.
These are much safer facilities from an environmental stand point than
nuclear plants and coal powered plants. This is valuable information that
everyone should understand and realize and that is what I’m going to do,
make the people think about hydroelectric energy.
