Dale
Chayes has enabled many major oceanographic mapping, bottom
profiling and submarine research
cruises during the past 36 years with
his unique blend of understanding the needs of geoscience research,
inventive engineering and interpersonal organizational skill.
At
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University since
graduation from St. Lawrence, he has worked with personnel from
numerous US and foreign academic and government research organizations
and sailed on well over a hundred research cruises contributing to in a
broad range oceanographic insights intended to enhance human
understanding of the Earth. In the process, he has sailed on or under
every ocean and most of the seas. His recent efforts have led
to
improved understanding of the Arctic, one of the most important
ecosystems as climate change threatens. He has shared his
work with
St. Lawrence audiences by participating in the Geology Alumni
Conferences.![]() |
