Funding up to $3000 is available for summer off-campus study in field biology to Biology (and Conservation Biology) major(s) showing promise in Natural History (e.g. ecology, environmental science, population biology, systematics).
The award is to encourage students to go beyond St. Lawrence to develop professional contracts. priority is given to students attending courses at established field stations. Information about field stations is available from faculty and on departmental bulletin boards and by visiting the Organization of Biological Field Stations website (http://www.obfs.org). Criteria will be the applicant’s academic record, personal qualities, and the relevance of the program to his/her career development. The amount of the award(s) will depend on financial need. Graduating seniors and sophomores are eligible but juniors have precedence.
To apply, submit 1) a description of your summer plans that involve study or research at a biological field station, including financial arrangements, 2) a statement of how this particular opportunity fits with your academic program (both research and coursework) at SLU or graduate school, 3) an unofficial SLU transcript, and 4) your current plans for graduate study and career goals.
Submit applications to Dr. Brad Baldwin or the Department Secretary, Rosemary Taylor by 5 pm, Friday March 28th. Applications received after the 28th may not be considered, depending on available funds, so apply by the deadline to improve your chances.
